Lil' Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., received probation after he pleaded guilty to a drug possession charge on June 18 in Arizona. The rapper, who is already imprisoned for a year at New York’s Rikers Island on a gun charge, was arrested in January 2008 when officers searched his tour bus. At the time, Wayne possessed an ounce of cocaine, almost four ounces of marijuana, forty-one grams of ecstasy, and a .40-caliber handgun; the bus also held eleven other passengers.

The charges that Lil' Wayne faced included “felony possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia”. If convicted, he faced up to 36 months in prison on top of the year that he is already serving.
All of the charges were dropped when Wayne pled guilty for one possession of a dangerous drug. The hip-hop artist, who was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, did not attend his court hearing. However, he did manage to make an appearance “via video hookup from Rikers.”
