Lil Wayne Rebirth Album Goes Gold; Rapper Barred From Signing Autographs In JailLil’ Wayne’s ‘Rebirth’ album is certified gold, selling over 500,000 copies. This comes after his label sent out the announcement just one day after Wayne turned himself in to begin his 1 year sentence for gun possession, as reported on HipHopRX. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Lil’ Wayne’s 7th solo album ‘Rebirth’ is certified gold and has hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Rap Album chart and reached No. 4 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Album charts.

‘Rebirth’ is a somewhat slightly different album from all the rest that Lil’ Wayne has released. Wayne says he played guitar on 80 percent of the album. “Yes, the album is still rock!” stated Wayne adding “..this album isn’t hip-hop. I say what I want, how I want. That’s what this album is: a freedom album.”

Though one of the most successful artists of our time, Lil’ Wayne is still in incarceration, and is prohibited from signing any autographs while locked up. A representative for the Correction Officer’s Benevolent Association has made the decision stating that “Lil Wayne is not a celebrity in here” while claiming that “Wayne isn’t receiving any special treatment while behind bars.”
