Hip-hop fans looking for the perfect gift can grab last-minute stocking stuffers from Lil’ Wayne and Eminem. Unsurprisingly, Rebirth has been moved to December 22 instead of the widely reported December 15 date. The most recent change is at least the third time that Wayne’s new collection of rock-flavored rap has been pushed back. The long-delayed Rebirth will be released on the same day as the We Are Young Money album, though it is not certain if they will be packaged as a double-disc set or separately.
The reason for the change has not been confirmed. It is possible that Lil’ Wayne’s New York court appearance for sentencing on weapons charges may be a factor. If his own dueling projects were not enough, Lil’ Wayne now competes with Eminem for Billboard chart position and Soundscan figures. The Detroit emcee has decided to re-release Relapse, as Relapse: Refill. Slim Shady’s reloaded effort will contain seven new songs to hold fans until Relapse 2 drops next year.Uncertainly clouds Rebirth, since the two earlier singles,Prom Queen” and Hot Revolver” have not matched the success of the Billboard number-one charting Lollipop from the platinum-selling Tha Carter III.
