Lil Wayne’s love of sport has led the rapper to create a new weekly web series where he will comment on his favorite games. Weezy will be bringing to the series his experience from ESPN where he’s appeared on a number debate shows and handled his own blog.
The rapper has already launched the first episode of ‘Weezy’s Sports Corner’ which will air every Saturday and cover a wide range of topics in the world of sport. “Sports only. …This will be an unscripted show, unrehearsed show. I’ll talk about whatever I want to talk about. I’ll talk freely. If they have guests, they can speak freely, and they can talk about whatever they want to talk about,” Weezy explained.
In the first episode, Weezy appears surrounded by his collection of skateboards and football paraphernalia to talk about everything from the NBA to skate boarding. Future episodes could end up having a fan driven component as the rapper invited his viewers to post questions on his Facebook page and said that he would answer the most interesting ones every week.
The rapper first revealed his love of sports when he released his mixtape ‘The Dedication 2′ in 2006 which included the track ‘SportCenter,’ and after ESPN learned that his interest was reciprocated by a number of Major League Baseball players, who listened to Weezy during their batting practice, the network invited him to write for the digital version of their magazine in 2008.
While Lil Wayne’s love of skateboarding is well-known, the rapper has previously indicated that he has a favorite team in every sport. In his first ESPN blog, Weezy even wrote about his respect for Rafael Nadal after a review of the 2008 Wimbledon Championship.
