Sucker Free has been MTV2’s #1 hip-hop countdown show and its longest running franchise. To celebrate, MTV2 hosted the Sucker Free Awards at LIV Fontainbleau Miami Beach on Friday, November 11. Lil Wayne and the YMCMB roster took the stage to perform, including Lil Twist with “Turnt Up” and Tyga with “Rack City”. Lil Wayne’s fashion statement spoke yet again, as he donned a pair of giraffe-print pants and yellow fanny pack with matching hat and performed “Y.U. Mad” alongside Birdman. Rick Ross and DJ Khaled were also in attendance, and when asked how he thought Drake’s sophomore album “Take Care” would fare sales wise, Khaled opined, “amazing”.
Award categories include Rookie of the Year, Must Follow Person of 2011, Song of the Year, and Who’s Got Next. The nominees range from Nicki Minaj, Drake, and A$AP Rocky to Jay-Z and Kanye West, J. Cole, and Lupe Fiasco. The Sucker Free Awards will air on MTV2 at 11pm ET/PT on December 4.
