The latter has been making waves since the November15 release of his album Take Care, which sold over 631000 copies in its first week on store shelves, putting it on course to go platinum before the end of the year.
"Drizzy" Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, who missed his flight into the country last week, had women swooning during his press conference in Johannesburg on Friday.
Lil Wayne ("Weezy F") the founder of Young Money Entertainment, the record label to which Drake is contracted, had already played Cape Town's Bellville Velodrome, and was in Johannesburg to play the Northgate Dome on Friday night.
But when it came to delivering on stage, the two couldn't be any more different. Drake, with his mother Sandi Graham in tow, battled three irritating sound outages early in his set, but remained calm, and went through his set very quickly.
His likeable manner and renditions of numerous smash hits including Headlines, Make Me Proud, Marvin's Room, Fancy, Best I Ever Had and Over), kept the crowd, which included Thomas and Unathi Msenaga, Anele Mdoda, Phat Joe and Uyanda Muli, on its feet.
On Saturday night at the Dome, which wasn't sold out, Weezy F played a louder, raunchier more rounded set that was littered with expletives (ditto Drake) and lasted almost 90 minutes.
Dressed in funny leopard-print dropped-crotch pants, hi-top sneakers, a T-shirt, sunglasses and a cap, he had the crowd - including Julius Malema and the bevvy of hot lasses surrounding him at a hospitality suite - in a trance. "I have three important things I want you to know," Weezy told fans. "I believe in God. I ain't sh*t without you. I ain't sh*t without you."
He then launched into A Milli, Mrs Officer, How To Love, She Will and Look At Me Now - courtesy of Chris Brown. He then told the crowd a funny story about meeting a Brazilian girl at Latinova night club in Johannesburg on Friday night.
His skateboarding all over the stage, Rick Ross's opening set, the dancers running on stage with pillows during the performance of BedRock, and the "surprise" appearance of Drake towards the end were just sides to the main event - Weezy F - and he made sure fans knew that.
He talked about making a "South African child" with a local, and then, pointing to a female fan, said: "She has a sign saying 'Take me to the after party'. I have an after party? You must mean the one down here," he said pointing to his crotch. "N*gga I'm so serious. I can make a South African child ."Lil Wayne ended his "I Am Still Music" tour in Durban last night.
